Violent Night (2022 Movie) Review:

Client Review: The majority of the action takes place at the Lightstone family compound, where one-percenter Gertrude (Christmas Excursion alum Beverly D'Angelo) rules over her entitled and unlikable family, which includes girl Alva (Edi Patterson), her dunce entertainer spouse Morgan (Cam Gigandet), and their pretender teen child Bert (Alexander Elliot). Likewise present for the merry night are Gertrude's child Jason (Alex Hassell), his alienated spouse Linda (Alexis Stronger), and their valuable 7-year-old little girl Trudy (Leah Brady). St. Nick arrives at the Lightstone house just as a group of hired soldiers led by Mr. Penny pincher (John Leguizamo) storm the place and kidnap the relatives. Their central goal is to break into the family vault and slip away with $300 million in real money.

What follows is a maniacal concoction of Die Hard (1989), Home Alone (1990), Terrible Santa (2003), and Thor (2011). Dangerous weapons used here include standard firearms, as well as a finely-honed treat stick, an icicle, a skating shoe, and a Christmas tree star, among other event items. Most conspicuous is the demo hammer employed by Santa and the flashback to his pre-Santa  days for clarification. The brutal activity is copious, and it's even accompanied by endless lines of satire. Shockingly, there is a story settled in among the commotion, and its core revolves around the connection between Santa and youthful Trudy. She's a genuine devotee to him, and that supersedes his vulnerability about the gig, and motivates him to stay close by for the battle. Santa  can't make sense of the persona of Christmas "magic,"  but he knows long term marriage has its highs and lows.
